From the start, I felt that the people, atmosphere, and the whole working environment were different at Capgemini. As a graduate I have been given some amazing opportunities both in terms of roles and in training, but the overall motivating factor has to be the variety of work; not only the people I’ve worked with, but also the projects I’ve worked on. One week I was working in a telephone call centre in Telford instructing customer service agents which calls they’d be making next, the following week I was sitting in an office in London advising senior managers about project forecasts and financials.

Alongside the work itself, there is a strong community spirit; my first experience of which was before I had even started when I was assigned a work ‘buddy’ who gave me some much appreciated help and advice. Upon joining Capgemini I was then provided with further support in the form of a reviewer (to help with my career development), a resource manager and a programme manager. In addition, there are always the various project managers while doing client work.

My latest role was working for a grant providing organisation: Capgemini was employed by the client to design and build a standard customer relationship management system to replace their current out-dated, bespoke system. I was involved during the initial stages to work out our client’s exact requirements, conducting a series of intensive client workshops to a very strict deadline.  I was given a lot of opportunity to learn about the technology and the client, and was also given a lot of responsibility.

There are fun challenges too. For the last two years we’ve run a “Dragons’ Den” style event where we present our own innovations and are judged by our senior management team – a scary experience, but an awesome opportunity.  The business technology consulting graduates also get involved in community projects and team building events with the charity Raleigh.

We are given as much training as needed; there is internal training to help you with any job to which you’re assigned. I have completed training in financial processes, effective presentation skills and effective writing skills, among others.  In addition, I have also attended residential courses.

There is a wealth of opportunity and support within Capgemini for us as graduates.  And as long as you are motivated and willing to get involved in everything that comes your way, Capgemini makes it easy for you to show your worth and encourages you to constantly out-perform yourself.
