Why did you apply to Capgemini?
I applied to Capgemini because it has a reputation for being a ‘people company’. This may not sound particularly meaningful on the surface, but in reality it has some important implications. It means I’m recognised for my personal skills and merits, not by age or grade. It means the types of people you work alongside are approachable, interested in your development and, most importantly, they’re friendly!
What is your favourite aspect about Capgemini?
My favourite aspect about Capgemini is the range of opportunities. Capgemini give you a free reign; if you want a challenge, it’s there for the taking. It’s the perfect environment to prove what you can do, if you want to give it a go. There’s an impressive support network at hand to help you if you need guidance. After all, we’re all recent graduates, and few of us have experience in consulting.
Why would you recommend Capgemini as a graduate employer?
I would recommend Capgemini’s graduate programme because capability is respected. It has a very good reputation in the wider company so even though I’m young and relatively inexperienced, I’m still given interesting work and my opinions are sought and respected by far more senior colleagues. The graduates are seen as quite a unique resource bringing quite different skills and perspectives to projects - not just ‘youth and enthusiasm’!
What is the best thing you have learned during your time at Capgemini?
The best thing I have learned during my time at Capgemini is the importance of communication skills. What you hear and say are just a small part of that. Listening to what people aren’t saying, and controlling the messages you send with your body language and physical tools are very important skills to learn.
What is the best part about your graduate scheme?
The best ‘part’ of the graduate programme are the graduates! My CDC peers are close friends and, as we’ve all got different backgrounds and skills, we help each other out where we can. When you’re on client site and your non-work friends aren’t around its really important that you can still socialise and have a life. A good work life balance is difficult to achieve when you’re on client site, so having other graduates around makes it a lot easier.
